Our time in Montenegro was brief, but just before leaving, we stopped and camped in the area around Lake Skadar. This lake, the largest in the Balkans, lies on the border between Montenegro and Albania. In this picture you see part of the river Rijeka Crnojevića, which flows into Lake Skadar.
What's fascinating about this river is its source: a strong, so-called Karst spring. We've encountered similar springs in other places over the past weeks. It's a truly strange sensation to witness a powerful flow of water seemingly appearing from nowhere, which is literally the groundwater being pushed upward through the rocks.
