We explored some nice mountain trails in the South of Rwanda. On the right we overlooked a valley bordering Burundi, and on the left the thick forests of Nyungwe National Park.
Sometimes, we choose to take the public and free roads crossing a national park to get a taste of the area, and skip any official visits or activities. To understand why, Nyungwe is a perfect example. Here there is a nice hiking route of 2 or 3 hours you can do, including a canopy walk, which we would be happy to see. Before reading any further, we are curious for your guesses how much the price would be for this hike for two persons. What do you think?
The answer is that, as a foreigner, you have to pay an access fee for the park of $100 p.p., and on top of that, a $40 p.p. surcharge to do the canopy walk. So that would make $280 in total for a short hike in the forest 🤯. No thanks, we'll just drive through then.
